In the vast world of social media, heartwarming stories have the power to unite us and remind us of the goodness that still exists. Such is the case of a remarkable individual who captured the hearts of netizens everywhere.
This heartwarming tale revolves around a humble human sari-sari store fondly referred to as “tatay,” whose stolen photo inside a jeepney spread like wildfire across Facebook and other social media platforms.
The viral post, recently shared by Moto Pops, a Facebook user with a following of 36,000, garnered immense attention and touched the lives of thousands. With over 184,000 likes, 6,000 shares, and 1,300 heartfelt comments, the photo showcased an elderly man, his face unknown, adorned with various items for sale hanging from his body.

The image encapsulated the struggles faced by this faceless warrior as he fought to make ends meet. Adding to the poignancy, the post was accompanied by a heartfelt caption that resonated with netizens: “Respeto sa nag nenegosyo maliit man o malaki. Salute sa lumalaban ng patas (Respect for those who engage in business, no matter how small or large. Salute to those who strive against all odds).”
Moved by the photo, netizens poured out their admiration and support. One Facebook user exclaimed, “Mabuhay ka, tatang!”
Another compassionate soul named Perilloi Almakym expressed, “I hope you continue to fight fairly. God bless you, tatay. It breaks my heart to see the hardships you endure, but it makes me proud to witness your unwavering dedication to doing what you believe is right.”
Cy Vhil Atsinagro chimed in, declaring, “If I ever see tatay, I’ll buy all of his goods.”

However, we did a bit of research and found out the photo had been taken and originally posted in September 2020 by a netizen named Daryl Bontia.
As Daryl rode a jeepney, he encountered an elderly man clinging onto the side, with his merchandise hanging from his worn-out clothes.
Daryl shared that Tatay Cirilo Almona, at the age of 62, tirelessly worked to provide for his daily needs and medical expenses. He often roamed the streets of Santolan and Manggahan in Pasig City, selling his wares to make a living.

According to Bontia, Tatay Cirilo lived alone and sought shelter among his kind-hearted friends. He revealed that Tatay Cirilo had no children and only saw his wife once a year, as she worked as a domestic helper in Cavite.
The viral photo shared by Bontia touched the hearts of countless individuals, leading to an outpouring of support for the elderly gentleman. Tatay Cirilo expressed profound gratitude to the generous souls who selflessly extended their help without hesitation.

This heartwarming story serves as a reminder that acts of kindness have the power to transform lives. The unity and compassion displayed by netizens not only brought assistance to Tatay Cirilo but also inspired others to perform their own acts of kindness.
In a world often overshadowed by negativity, these uplifting stories remind us of the power we hold to make a difference in someone’s life, no matter how small the gesture may seem.
Let us continue to spread kindness, one act at a time, and create a brighter and more compassionate world for all.
