In a shocking turn of events, videos depicting the heinous crime of a murdered rape victim and her apprehended killer have gone viral on various social media platforms, particularly TikTok.
The disturbing footage has sparked widespread outrage among millions of netizens, who expressed their disgust at the brutal assault and murder of 19-year-old nursing student Lyziel Joy Abogade. The suspect, identified as 38-year-old Jeffrey Addam Barga, was swiftly located and captured by authorities within a mere 36 hours.
Reports indicate that the victim was not only subjected to a horrific act of sexual violence but was also robbed on her way home in Santiago City on June 18. The lifeless body of Abogade was discovered on a vacant lot along Palac Road in Purok 3, Brgy. Buenavista, Santiago City. She was a dedicated student attending the University of La Salette Santiago City, whose dreams were tragically cut short.
One particular TikTok video, which has amassed over 1.2 million views, showcases the exhausted suspect, his hands bound behind his back, as he undergoes interrogation, possibly conducted by police officers. When questioned about his motive, the accused claimed that he committed the crime under the influence of alcohol, stating, “Hindi ka na lang naawa sa bata” (Couldn’t you have shown mercy to the child) and denying any orders from others to carry out the despicable act.

In the video, another individual asks the suspect if he raped the victim, to which he responds with a firm “no.” The exchange continues with a voice condemning the suspect’s brutal actions while he expresses remorse, acknowledging the gravity of his terrible mistake.
The emotional impact of the video has resonated with netizens, who have poured out their sympathy and support for the grieving family of Lyziel.
Among the countless comments, one netizen exclaimed, “Grabe naman, kuya. Kawawa yong bata, may pangarap sa buhay” (This is outrageous, brother. The child had dreams for her future), while another shared, “Hindi ko siya kilala pero grabe ung nangyari sa kanya. ‘nd q alam what pain ung na feel nya at ng family nya” (I don’t know her, but what happened to her is horrifying. I can’t even fathom the pain she and her family went through).
Furthermore, numerous netizens have called for the implementation of the death penalty as a means of seeking justice for the untimely demise of the victim. TikTok user Ghiedelacruz1 boldly stated, “Ngayon ninyo sabihin bakit hindi pwede ang DEATH PENALTY sa Pilipinas?” (Now tell me, why isn’t the death penalty allowed in the Philippines?).

Disturbing details emerged as authorities uncovered the body of a victim, bound and partially concealed. A construction worker’s sharp eye led to the harrowing discovery, prompting a swift response from law enforcement.
Investigating the victim’s last known movements, CCTV footage revealed her departure from Santiago City at 4:45 a.m. on June 18. She had set out to attend an early morning worship service in Villasis, informing her sister of her plans and the tricycle’s franchise number (3524) she had hailed. Carrying a brown shoulder bag and cellphone, she embarked on her fateful journey.
Further inquiry revealed that the tricycle she used belonged to Glenda Salarzon of Divisioria, Santiago City. Glenda’s brother, Nelson, who was driving the vehicle, fell victim to an unexpected attack and robbery while taking a nap in Bukuhan, Purok 5, Bgy. Mabini, during the early hours of June 18.
A breakthrough occurred when the tricycle’s sidecar was located in a local junk shop in Bgy. Calaocan on June 19. The shop owner stated that an unidentified individual, matching the suspect’s description, sold the sidecar to one of their employees on June 18 at 7 a.m. Crucial CCTV footage from the shop captured a muscular person in denim shorts and a blue t-shirt during the transaction.
Brigadier General Redrico A. Maranan, Chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP) Public Information Office, commended the swift action of the Police Regional Office 2 and the Santiago City Police Station in solving this robbery-murder case. PNP Chief General Benjamin C. Acorda Jr. affirmed the commitment to justice, vowing to hold the perpetrator accountable for this heinous act.
Preparations are underway to file a criminal complaint for robbery with homicide against the suspect at the Santiago City Prosecutor’s Office. The investigation remains ongoing as the PNP tirelessly seeks answers surrounding the victim’s untimely death and ensures that justice is served.
This shocking crime has sparked nationwide conversations about the safety and protection of vulnerable individuals. The demand for justice and urgent calls for reforms resonate deeply within the hearts of citizens, eager to prevent such senseless acts of violence.
