In the footage, passersby can be seen hastily picking up peso bills of various denominations, each one an opportunity to add to their unexpected windfall. Traffic briefly came to a standstill on July 4 as the news of this unusual incident spread like wildfire.

While on his way to Mandaue City, the collector, John Mark Barrientos, was riding his motorcycle when the zipper of his backpack unexpectedly gave way, causing the money he was carrying—a staggering P4 million—to spill onto the road.

Fortunately, several kind-hearted motorists who witnessed the incident immediately rushed to his aid, assisting in the retrieval of the scattered bills. Approximately P2 million was successfully returned to Barrientos, but more than a million pesos still remain missing. It appears that some motorists and residents couldn’t resist the temptation to pocket a portion of the scattered fortune.

According to the Mambaling police station in Cebu City, around P60,000 of the lost money was discovered in nearby drainage systems. Authorities have made a public appeal to those who managed to retrieve any bills to return them to the collector.
