Amidst the Supreme Court’s recent decision to transfer the embattled Embo barangays from Makati to Taguig, a glimmer of hope emerges for Makatizens as the city steadfastly maintains ownership of its most cherished service-related infrastructures. Despite the jurisdictional shift, Makati stands resolute in its commitment to preserving vital institutions, offering reassurance to its residents during this time of change.
Addressing the implications of the Supreme Court’s decision, Mayor Binay clarified the distinction between political jurisdiction and property ownership. This assurance comes as a sigh of relief for the Makatizens who hold the institutions dear and depend on their services.
In the wake of the jurisdictional transfer, residents of the affected barangays express concern over the availability of health services. While health centers will continue to offer consultations, the provision of free medications and laboratory services may face limitations.
Regarding this, Mayor Binay explained, “Hindi ko na po pwedeng ibigay more than that. Despite these adjustments, the city remains committed to addressing the healthcare needs of its citizens to the best of its ability.
The Supreme Court’s decision reaches beyond healthcare and education, impacting various aspects of Makati’s governance. Notably, residents of the camping barangays will transition to Taguig’s administration, necessitating a comprehensive shift in fiscal matters, the court system, and voter registration.
