A frail 75-year-old man who had to walk on stick from Provo, Utah lost his life during an FBI raid at his residence in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
Craig Robertson, the elderly man in question, was fatally shot at approximately 6:15 am during the FBI’s operation at his home. The incident has ignited debates about the use of excessive force and the apparent disparities in justice system responses.
The tragedy unfolded as authorities responded to threatening posts that Robertson had been sharing on his Facebook page, specifically aimed at President Joe Biden.
The posts had raised red flags and had caught the attention of law enforcement prior to President Biden’s scheduled visit to Utah. NBC News reported that Robertson’s threats were a cause for concern, prompting the FBI to take action.
“The incident began when special agents attempted to serve arrest and search warrants at a residence. The subject is deceased. The FBI takes all shooting incidents involving our agents or task force members seriously,” the FBI stated in response to the incident. The shooting is currently under review by the FBI’s Inspection Division, in line with their policy.
Robertson’s Facebook page had been a platform for his incendiary and threatening statements, including references to the assassination of public and government officials. One post in particular captured him declaring, “Blue states will never take over the country. The armed red states will revolt and execute every Democrat politician!”
While the posts had been ongoing for some time, they began gaining attention back in September of 2022 when Robertson made statements suggesting the time was right for an assassination targeting President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris. His social media trail also included alarming remarks like, “Hey FBI, you still monitoring my social media? Checking so I can be sure to have a loaded gun handy.”
However, as public opinion churns in the wake of this incident, many netizens are pointing out a perceived double standard in the justice system. This points to instances where celebrities like Kathy Griffin and other Hollywood figures, with their own history of inciting violence against public figures, have not faced the same level of swift and aggressive response from law enforcement.
