A parody account of tech magnate Elon Musk has recently caused quite a stir on X, fanning the flames of hope for a Tesla Smartphone that promises to shatter the norms of the mobile world.
For tech enthusiasts and privacy advocates alike, this curious development couldn’t have come at a more opportune time, especially when concerns over data collection by giants like Facebook and Google have reached a crescendo.
The Tesla smartphone has been a tantalizing rumor for years, but until now, Elon Musk has not definitively acknowledged its existence.
“Would you buy the Tesla Smartphone? Your information will never be collected,” declared the parody account, sparking an immediate frenzy of speculation.
This digital echo chamber promptly reverberated with queries. “How much?” inquired one user. The account coyly replied, “Cheaper than an iPhone, and also better.” Such a claim naturally piqued interest, with one enthusiastic verified user, Uwem Brown, exclaiming, “You’re living a dream. Selling to the whole world. I’ll definitely buy this one. I’ve never been an Apple person.”
“We will be the better version of Apple!” Elon’s parody account boldly proclaimed, igniting further intrigue. However, it remains a mystery who is the mastermind behind this account and whether it holds any credible insight into the elusive smartphone’s reality.
While the majority of these tantalizing tidbits emanated from the parody account, the real Elon Musk has also flirted with the idea of the Tesla Smartphone.
In November last year, he responded to conservative commentator Liz Wheeler’s hypothetical scenario, wherein Apple and Google banished Twitter from their app stores. Musk’s response was unequivocal: “I certainly hope it does not come to that, but, yes, if there is no other choice, I will make an alternative phone.”
Despite the absence of an official statement regarding the Tesla Smartphone, the speculation mill has been running at full tilt.
The parody account hinted at an independent operating system, eschewing reliance on Android, and a rock-solid commitment to user data security. “Apple and other large providers may take your data and sell it off, store it, etc. We will keep everything secure and make sure it goes absolutely nowhere but on your phone,” proclaimed the account, hinting at an insider’s knowledge.
Tech aficionados eagerly weighed in, with verified user Jan Moore expressing his Apple disillusionment, “Yes. Absolutely. I have an Apple 14 pro max. Worst phone I’ve ever had. Very disappointed.” Notably, popular verified user Ian Miles Cheong chimed in, saying, “Not if it looked like that. I want something sleek.” To which the parody account confidently retorted, “It will look better.”
However, the plot thickened as one user conditioned his interest in the Tesla Smartphone on its ability to download and run apps owned by Musk’s nemesis, Mark Zuckerberg. Given their storied rivalry, such a move from Musk wouldn’t be out of character if the fabled smartphone were to materialize.
In the tech-savvy mix, another verified user delved into the specifics, demanding, “Does it come with its own personal and secure cloud? Can it go into offline mode only? Can everything be stored only on the hard drive? Can you install whatever app you want? Can you turn off all listening devices on the phone? Can it come without a listening device? And finally, does it come with a spam filter that actually works? Nail all that and you’ve got a customer.”
