CNN’s Demands for Repercussions Against Elon Musk Ignite Controversy Over Starlink

CNN’s liberal and warmongering anchor Jake Tapper has recently demanded that Secretary of State Antony Blinken take action against SpaceX founder Elon Musk for refusing to allow Ukraine access to his Starlink satellites.

Tapper’s questioning on CNN’s “State of the Union” focused on whether Musk should face “repercussions” for denying Starlink access to Ukraine, which sought to use it for a potential military operation against Russian warships near Crimea last year.

“Musk effectively sabotaged a military operation by Ukraine, a U.S. ally, against Russia, an aggressor country that invaded a U.S. ally. Should there be repercussions for that?” Tapper queried Secretary Blinken.

Blinken, however, took a measured stance, responding that he couldn’t comment on the specific episode but emphasized Starlink’s critical role for Ukrainians, especially their military, in communicating and defending their territory.

“I can’t speak to a specific episode,” Blinken stated. “Here’s what I can tell you – Starlink has been a vital tool for Ukrainians to be able to communicate with each other and particularly for the military to communicate in their efforts to defend all of Ukraine’s territory. It remains so, and I would expect it to continue to be critical to their efforts.”

Unfazed, Tapper retorted, “I don’t know if you can speak to it — you won’t speak to it.” He then delved into Musk’s purported “private discussions” with “senior Russian officials” about Starlink, questioning whether Musk’s diplomatic outreach to Russia raised concerns.

Blinken maintained his diplomatic tone, responding, “I can’t speak to conversations that may or may not have happened, I don’t know.”

The discussion then shifted to the broader geopolitical context, with Blinken highlighting Ukraine’s success over the past year and the considerations related to Russia’s potential responses to various actions.

Unhappy with Blinken’s responses, Tapper quipped, “It sounds like Starlink is so important to the U.S. government that it doesn’t want to risk offending a capricious billionaire who did some things that I think in another situation the U.S. government might want to say something about.”

Meanwhile, Musk himself clarified his stance on the matter, revealing that he had denied government requests to use Starlink for a military operation against Russian warships near Crimea. He explained that such an agreement would have made SpaceX complicit in a significant act of war and conflict escalation.

Musk’s refusal to escalate tensions with Russia drew sharp criticism, not only from CNN but also from a wider spectrum of media outlets.

In response, Musk took to his platform to mock CNN, remarking, “Clueless New Network is being outrageous in desperation, as their actual viewership rounds down to ~0%.”
