It appears that the ongoing legal battles and perceived political persecution surrounding former President Donald Trump have led one of his lawyers and co-defendants to distance herself from him.
Jenna Ellis, who is facing criminal charges related to alleged attempts to subvert the 2020 election results, has publicly declared that she will not support Trump in any future election, citing his “malignant narcissistic tendency” and refusal to admit mistakes, according to The Guardian.
Speaking on her show on American Family Radio, a longstanding conservative network, Ellis, 38, expressed her reservations about the former president’s personality and leadership style. She stated, “I simply can’t support him for elected office again,” emphasizing her concerns over his inability to acknowledge wrongdoing.
Ellis found herself among a group of 18 Trump associates facing charges in Georgia for their alleged roles in attempting to overturn Biden’s victory in the state.

The charges against her specifically pertain to violations of state anti-racketeering laws and solicitation of the violation of an oath by a public officer.
Notably, Ellis has been granted bail set at $100,000 and has entered a plea of not guilty in response to these charges.
Taking to social media platform X, formerly Twitter, Ellis shed light on her change of stance, posting, “This isn’t the news or drama the Left is now trending me for, but at least this piece adds the context of my discussion with @SteveDeaceShow,” along with a screenshot of an article from The Guardian.
Steve Deace is a host on Blaze TV.
In an attempt to clarify her stance, she also posted a “full clip” of her conversation with Deace, stating, “If Trump wins the nomination, I will vote for him over a Democrat.” She further added, “My point is that we have a choice in the primary to choose the best candidate and best conservative.”
Trump, who is currently facing numerous legal challenges, including 13 racketeering and conspiracy charges, as well as federal counts related to election subversion and state counts in New York over hush-money payments, maintains his innocence and alleges political persecution.
Despite these legal battles, Trump continues to lead in polling for the 2024 Republican presidential primary by significant margins in both national and key state surveys.
Ellis, who previously worked as counsel for the conservative Catholic group the Thomas More Society, rose to prominence in 2020 as part of Trump’s legal team attempting to overturn his election defeat. Her move to distance herself from Trump comes after she joined American Family Radio last December.
During her show, Ellis spoke with Deace who stated, “Before that man [Trump] needs to be president again … [to] escape the quote-unquote, ‘witch-hunts,’ that man needs Jesus again because … his ambitions would be fueled by showing some self-awareness. And he won’t do it because he can’t admit, ‘I’m not God.'”
Ellis concurred with Deace’s sentiments, explaining, “Everything that you just said resonates with me as exactly why I simply can’t support him for elected office again.” She expressed deep respect for Trump personally but raised concerns about the idolatry of some supporters who prioritize their admiration for him over constitutional principles and the country’s well-being.
As Ellis pointed out, her decision to speak out reflects the growing debate within conservative circles about Trump’s future role in American politics and the principles that should guide their support for potential candidates.
