Singaporean Police, Philips Accuse Orion Dumdum of Lying, Hint at Potential Consequences for Spreading Misinformation

An escalating online feud between a “pathological liar” Filipino OFW and a Singaporean national shows no signs of abating. Both parties appear determined to surpass each other in this seemingly digital clash of titans.

Orion P. Dumdum, a vocal advocate of a parliamentary system for the Philippines despite residing in the affluent city-state, recently ignited the flames by organizing a dubious online contest. He urged his followers and netizens at large to mass-report a Singaporean national’s Facebook account.

What’s more, he even encouraged the use of dummy accounts for this reporting spree, promising prizes for the top three netizens with the most takedowns.

Serene, hailing from Sembawang as confirmed by Dumdum himself and being the primary target of his mass-report campaign, has countered with a barrage of “receipts,” or screenshots, to expose the outspoken OFW.

Ho took to Facebook to expose what she deemed Dumdum’s “lies,” particularly his false claims about Singapore’s police force and his former employer, Philips.

Ms. Ho accused Dumdum, whom she labeled a “pathological liar,” of fabricating stories about the police and Philips.

She also posted on Facebook that Dumdum has been “stirring hatred between Filipinos working here and Singaporeans.”

Dumdum’s LinkedIn profile confirms he did indeed worked at Philips Singapore.

In one of his Facebook posts, he claimed that his former employer advised him to “contact the authorities.”

Dumdum posted, “The HR manager of my former company, Philips, who heard about their [Ho and others] false complaints against me told me to take care and contact the authorities, given that these zealots have actually doxxed me and might even suddenly come to my residence and harm me and other innocent people affiliated with me.”

However, Philips issued a statement, saying they disavow Dumdum’s claims, as “his views are entirely his own, expressed in a personal capacity, are not in any way associated with our company, and do not reflect our company values.”

Philips Singapore Communications clarified, “Having looked into the matter, we wish to clarify that the claims made by Mr. Orion D. Perez in his Facebook video uploaded on 19 April 2023 with regards to alleged comments made by Philips Singapore’s HR Manager are misrepresentations. Please be assured that this is not a view held by Philips, and we reserve our right to take action against dissemination of such misleading claims.”

In a video Dumdum posted but quickly deleted, he derogatorily referred to Singaporeans as “stupid idiots” and suggested that people at Philips were “laughing” at his critics.

Philips responded to a letter-sender’s inquiries by urging them to “lodge a complaint directly with Facebook, as Facebook controls their platform moderation policy.”

In the deleted video, Dumdum sarcastically mimicked the Singaporean accent, which some netizens, including Ms. Ho, deemed as “racist” and bigoted.

However, the situation escalated when Facebook deleted and banned Ms. Ho’s account following Dumdum’s takedown contest.

In his shady competition, which he later extended until the end of September, Dumdum urged his followers to employ dummy accounts and enticed them with monetary rewards for reporting Ho’s primary account in large numbers.

Furthermore, Singapore’s police addressed Ms. Ho’s concerns, stating they had investigated the video posted by Dumdum and were “satisfied that our officer did not make any such comments.”

In the video, Dumdum made incriminating claims that the Singaporean police were on his side, declaring, “no one is on your side!”

He even challenged Singaporeans by saying, “You ask Madame Ho Ching. You ask Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, you ask the government. You think they’re on your side. You ask the police force! You think they’re on your side? They’re not on your side! They’re on the side of Zoey Gabriel and they’re on the side of me! They’re on the side of Orion P. Dumdum.”

Commenting on Dumdum’s grandiose claims, Supt. Ling Wei Wei Ivy, operations officer of Sengkang NPC-Ang Mo Kio division, said, “Our officer had acted appropriately and carried out his duties professionally in accordance with the procedures.”

Dumdum’s previous posts have featured personal insults against Ms. Ho, doxing, and body-shaming, including comments like, “when your face is like that, better be nice to other people lah!” and “fugly bleached whale of Sembawang.”

Dumdum even labeled Ms. Ho a “narcissistic psychopath” and accused her of “repeatedly posting hateful content against Zoey Gabriel, without evidence, and that she’s ‘angry towards Foreign Talent working in Singapore.'”

Dumdum, in a previous post addressing his followers, posted Ms. Ho’s photo and this seemingly veiled threat: “By the way, do not attack her [Serene Ho] physically.”

The roots of this intense online conflict trace back to January when Ms. Ho posted a viral critique of Singapore-based Filipina influencer Zoey Gabriel’s claims about her family’s status.

Gabriel faced backlash for calling a Charles & Keith bag “luxury.”

Contrary to Dumdum’s baseless claims, in January, Ms. Ho defended Gabriel’s statement, deeming it the “best endorsement ever.” However, Dumdum’s intervention as Gabriel’s “white knight” and “savior,” according to some Singaporean netizens, triggered a contentious series of exchanges between Dumdum and Ms. Ho.
