Liza Soberano Lashes Out at Tabloid’s ‘Click-Bait’ Journalism: ‘You guys are Straight Up Shitting on a Young Woman’s Dreams’

Actress Liza Soberano found herself showered with messages of support from Filipinos after she called out news sites for their questionable reporting practices.

This incident unfolded on Thursday, September 21, when Soberano responded to a social media post by Inquirer.net, which had shared an article from its tabloid counterpart, Bandera.

It’s worth noting that Inquirer.net later deleted the post due to backlash.

The offending headline and caption read, “Liza Soberano pinagtawanan ng bashers: ‘Hay naku, kung anu-ano na lang pinaggagagawa mo, nasaan na ang Hollywood dream?’”

Soberano didn’t hold back in expressing her discontent, taking to social media to question the state of journalism: “What type of journalism is this, @inquirerdotnet, @banderaphl ?? You guys are straight-up s**tting on a young woman’s dreams in the pursuit of clicks and comments,” she wrote, further emphasizing, “Don’t you guys have more important news to talk about??????”

The contentious article, initially published by Bandera on September 19, began with the phrase: “FROM an A-lister to vlogger.”

It depicted Soberano’s transition from an A-list actress to a vlogger, a shift that garnered mixed reactions. The report claimed that “majority” of Filipinos perceived this transition as a “demotion of sorts,” speculating that she had abandoned her Hollywood aspirations.

The article also touched upon Soberano’s YouTube channel, where she explores Korean culture. This endeavor received criticism from some, who questioned her promotion of Korean values despite lacking Korean heritage.

Shortly after the controversy, the article was deleted, and fans rallied behind Soberano, offering their unwavering support.

One fan expressed, “Too unprofessional from @inquirerdotnet @banderaphl! Your voice matters, and you’re making it heard. Remember, you’ve got the power to turn your dreams into reality. Keep moving forward. We’re here to support you all the way, @lizasoberano.”

Another supporter chimed in, likening Inquirer to a notorious figure, “Inquirer is the alternick of Aling Mila.”

The overwhelming message was one of support and encouragement for Soberano.

In a recent revelation, Liza Soberano shared her aspirations of entering the Korean entertainment industry, personally considering South Korea as “the next Hollywood.”

She has already ventured into YouTube with her travel series, “Liza in Korea,” showcasing her experiences as a tourist, fan girl, and aspiring entrepreneur in one of her favorite destinations.

Soberano also addressed her recent hiatus from acting, citing the ongoing strike of the Screen Actor’s Guild and American Federation of Radio and TV Artists (SAG-AFTRA) and the Writers Guild of America (WGA) against the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers.

As a member of SAG-AFTRA, she clarified, “I can’t take on any projects legally until the strike is over.”

Earlier this year, Liza Soberano expressed her long-standing dream of pursuing a Hollywood career, aiming to pave the way for future generations of Filipino talent.

She intends to bridge the gap between the Philippines and America, making it easier for aspiring artists to pursue their dreams in Hollywood.
