Actress Angeli Khang Faces Legal Challenge Over Online Content

Actress Angeli Khang is currently embroiled in a legal battle against the Kapisanan ng Social Media Broadcaster ng Pilipinas, Inc. (KSMBPI), who have filed six criminal charges against her.

These charges, based on Article 201 of the Revised Penal Code in relation to the Cyber Crime Prevention Act of 2012, stem from what KSMBPI alleges are “explicit scenes” posted by Khang from her movies.

Claiming the role of “watchdog of the cyberspace of the Philippines,” KSMBPI asserts that they are monitoring social media posts made by figures in the entertainment industry, especially those, like Angeli, who are considered sexy stars.

They argue that the easy accessibility of their social media accounts, particularly among young people, necessitates such vigilance.

The legal action against Khang comes as KSMBPI also pursued a criminal case against the popular couple Vice Ganda and Ion Perez, following an incident they referred to as the “icing-licking” that took place during an episode of “It’s Showtime” on July 25, 2023.

Fellow artists of Khang, including Rash Flores, shared their support for the actress during the story conference of their new film, “Virgin Sisters,” produced by Pinoyflix and Entertainment Production, Inc. and directed by JR Olinares.

Rash Flores stated, “Angeli Khang is our co-artist, and we firmly believe that she has not committed any wrongdoing. She has not violated any laws. This is why we are confident that the case against her will be dismissed.”

Audrey Avila weighed in on the situation, highlighting that she is not particularly active on social media and suggesting that the case against Angeli Khang might be an attempt to capitalize on her popularity.

“I don’t know much about this issue because I’m not very active on social media. Perhaps those who filed the case against Angeli just want to grab the spotlight. With Vivamax being so popular these days, they might want a share of that spotlight,” she said.
