Nagpa-Tulfo Si Tulfo: Sen. Raffy Takes on Standard Insurance Over Wife’s Claim Denial

Senator Raffy Tulfo, the main host of the popular public service television show “Tulfo In Action,” recently found himself in an unexpected role – as a complainant in a case against Standard Insurance (SI).

During a recent episode of the show, Senator Tulfo spoke with Atty. Pau Cruz, one of the program’s hosts, to discuss his wife Jocelyn’s ongoing dispute with Standard Insurance.

The situation unfolded when Jocelyn needed to attend a church event in Pampanga but faced a challenge – they had no available driver.

In a bid to overcome this hurdle, she entrusted their Toyota Fortuner to their bodyguard, who held a non-professional driver’s license. Tragically, the journey took a harrowing turn when the vehicle figured in an accident, leaving the bodyguard fortunate to survive but the Fortuner a total wreck.

The Fortuner was insured with SI for a substantial sum of P1.7 million.

Shockingly, Jocelyn’s claim was denied on the grounds that the individual driving the car did not possess a professional driver’s license.

After waiting for two months, Jocelyn was presented with a “take it or leave it” ultimatum, offering her only half of the full insured amount of P1.7 million.

Tulfo, clearly perturbed by the situation, examined the insurance policy and made a revealing discovery.

“Tiningnan ko yong policy nila, walang nakalagay doon na dapat eh professional driver’s license ang ida-drive nung pinapayagan ng may-ari ng sasakyan na magmaneho,” he remarked.

He also highlighted the numerous complaints against Standard Insurance.

Tulfo went on to accuse the insurance company of using delaying tactics by requesting excessive and often irrelevant documentation requirements.

“Sabi ko dun sa Standard Insurance na nakausap ko, kung nagawa niyo ito sa amin, paano na kaya sa ordinaryong tao?” he questioned.

Senator Tulfo seized the opportunity not only to advocate for his wife’s case but also to extend support to other victims of insurance company abuses and unfair claim denials, emphasizing that his concerns extended beyond SI to include all insurance providers.

He expressed his intent to initiate a Senate inquiry aimed at legislative intervention to address abuses by insurance companies.
