The death of a suspected leader of a notorious criminal gang involved in contract killings and criminal activities across Metro Manila and Calabarzon, has stirred discussions on a sub-reddit not only for his heinous crimes but also for his affiliations described as a “Marcos-Dutertard fantod.”

Gelbirth Puerto, 30, met his end in an alleged shootout in Bacoor City, Cavite, on December 3.

According to Brig. Gen. Redrico Maranan, the Quezon City Police District operatives engaged in a clash with Puerto in Barangay Molino III around 1:30 a.m., PhilStar reported.

Puerto was intercepted by the police while driving a Honda Click motorcycle in front of a residential compound.

During the confrontation, Puerto allegedly pulled out a handgun and opened fire at the police, leading to a retaliatory response.

Puerto was fatally shot, and a .45 caliber handgun was recovered from his possession. Remarkably, none of the policemen sustained injuries during the incident.

A netizen, who might be familiar with Puerto, posted on sub-reddit r/insanepinoyfacebook, describing the deceased criminal gang leader as a “Marcos-Duterte fantard, antivaxxer, and self-identified ‘rap artist.’”

The post some details about Puerto’s alleged criminal activities, including leading the Bayawak robbery gang and being implicated in the killing of a woman who refused sex.

“Gelbirth Albios Puerto, alias BossBay, is suspected of leading the Bayawak robbery gang and killing a woman for refusing sex. Now, he’s dead at the hands of the government he loves so much,” a post by Reddit user u/inferiorcritic states.

Reddit users joined the conversation, expressing sentiments such as “good riddance” and condemning individuals like Puerto who support political figures.

“Basta talaga mga salot o latak sa lipunan, alam na agad sino ang mga sinusuportahan,” a Redditor commented.

“Santa’s giving me early gifts? Uson, Panelo, Sassot, Roque, Calida, TP, Senyora, whole DDS when?” Another Redditor commented.

“Look at this post. Isa sa mga biniktima nya noon. Deserve nya yan. No rest for the wicked,” a Redditor said, sharing the story of one of Puerto’s alleged victims.

Some users reflected on Puerto’s alleged victims, while others shared horror stories about encounters with him.

One Facebook user, Ebrahim Bea Vialys, recounted the terror Puerto allegedly caused to her and her husband. She expressed relief at the news of Puerto’s demise, stating that his attempt to harm her family was unsuccessful.

Puerto’s family took to Facebook to issue an apology to the victims, acknowledging his wrongdoing.

Jhezz Albios Silao, Puerto’s family member, posted a public apology, expressing remorse and emphasizing that Puerto’s actions were not reflective of the family’s principles.

Brig. Gen. Redrico Maranan alleged that Puerto was the leader of the Bayawak criminal gang, responsible for a series of killings and robberies targeting commercial establishments in Metro Manila and Calabarzon.

Maranan assured the public that the Quezon City Police District would persist in monitoring and locating individuals involved in the spate of robbery incidents in the city.
