Melai Cantiveros Takes South Korea by Storm, Lands Top 3 Trending Spot on X During AAA 2023

Filipina actress and beloved comedian Melai Cantiveros, widely known as “Ma’am Chief,” catapulted to the third spot on X, formerly Twitter, in South Korea’s trending charts during the much-hyped Asian Artist Awards night on Thursday.

The comedy sensation’s meteoric rise trails only behind the top trend topics #AAA2023inPH at number 1 and #AsiaArtistAwards2023 at number 2.

Cantiveros, who trends with Ryan Bang, undeniably stole the spotlight, earning the title of the night’s star.

Her infectious humor resonated with South Korea’s A-listers and attendees alike, prompting fits of laughter that reverberated throughout the event.

Social media platforms are ablaze with clips and footage capturing the infectious moments of Cantiveros’ speech and interview, showcasing top Korean celebrities and K-pop stars reveling in her comedic brilliance.

During the star-studded affair, IVE’s Jang Won-young, one of the evening’s emcees, seized the opportunity to engage Cantiveros in a brief interview.

When asked about her feelings regarding the awards night, Cantiveros expressed her deep sense of honor, proclaiming, “I feel like I am the first honor, a valedictorian.” Overwhelmed by the experience, she added, “I cannot believe this is happening.”

In a lighthearted exchange, Cantiveros revealed her desire to meet her idol, Kim Seon-ho, and the K-pop girl group NewJeans, sharing, “because my daughter loves NewJeans.”

Notably, Cantiveros clinched the AAA Best Actor Award, solidifying her status as a rising international entertainment sensation.

The unexpected highlight of the night occurred when Cantiveros caught the attention of Korean heartthrob Kim Seon Ho.

Seated at the VIP area alongside other local celebrities, Cantiveros found herself at the center of the action right after NewJeans received the Hot Trend award for AAA 2023.

The charismatic host, conducting interviews with nominees including Kim Seon Ho, Lee Jun Ho, Suho, and Kentaro Sakaguchi, approached Cantiveros.

Responding with a mix of “annyeonghaseyo” and “arigato gozaimasu,” Cantiveros charmingly tackled the questions in broken English, earning her a cascade of cheers and laughter from the audience.

In a hilarious moment, Cantiveros reiterated her valedictorian sentiment, exclaiming, “I feel like I am the first honor, a valedictorian in attending an AAA. So the best, prestigious award. I cannot believe this happening!”

Expressing her admiration for Kim Seon Ho, she playfully added, “Magandang buhay, maayong hapon na mga taga-Gen San, Pilipinas! Uhm, I want, I’m so very idol, Kim Seon Ho!”

The camera panned to capture Kim Seon Ho’s amused reaction, as Cantiveros playfully gestured and made her trademark wacky faces.

Amid the laughter and cheers that enveloped the Philippine Arena, Cantiveros’ comedic prowess shone through, making her interview a standout moment of the AAA 2023.

As one X user aptly put it, “Can we all agree, Melai is one of the ppl who made this show less dull and boring. Congratulations our debutant, nation’s mamshie, valedictorian, and god’s servant! You made us proud.”

Another X user marveled, “Melai’s thought process should be studied because how do u come up with that,” referring to Cantiveros’ whimsical comparison of attending the AAA awards to feeling like a valedictorian or receiving the first honor.
