Man Shot Dead in His Backyard in Talisay City, Cebu Over P3,000 Debt

A small business owner was ruthlessly murdered, shot within the confines of his own yard in Talisay City, Cebu.

The alleged perpetrator of the crime is a man reportedly indebted to the victim for P3,000.

According to a police report on Thursday, the victim was identified as Hermogenes Reyes, 55 years old.

In the CCTV footage from Reyes’s backyard, the victim can be seen engrossed in preparing coconuts for husking.

However, while the victim’s back is turned, the assailant arrives carrying a pail concealing a firearm.

After a brief moment, the suspect fires a single shot at the victim. Nevertheless, Reyes manages to turn around and hurl his machete at the fleeing suspect.

The suspect, however, successfully distances himself, while the victim collapses due to the gunshot wound.

Before succumbing to his injuries, the victim allegedly revealed to his wife the identity of the person who shot him.

In the police investigation, it was discovered that the suspect sells rice cakes and purportedly owes the victim P3,000.

The authorities speculate that the suspect may have become incensed when confronted by the victim for the outstanding debt.

The authorities are currently pursuing the perpetrator.
