A Korean national found himself in police custody on Sunday after a chase and scuffle with a Bonifacio Global City (BGC) marshal and a police officer.
The incident unfolded when the individual was apprehended for urinating in a park.
Cellphone footage shared by BGC marshal Ronald Brian Pentecostes captured the purportedly intoxicated Korean urinating at the intersection of 9th Avenue and 28th Street, holding his cellphone, ABS-CBN News reported.
Pentecostes recounted the suspect’s sudden escalation, hurling curses and raising his voice after being told that such behavior was prohibited.
Arresting officer Police Cpl. Jandy Galvez arrived at the scene, revealing that the Korean was being pursued towards his residence.
Though not evident in the video, Galvez asserted that they were pushed during the pursuit.
Another video shared later depicted a vehement struggle during the arrest, with the suspect resisting being handcuffed.
“Habang nagpapatrol ako, nakita ko bigla siyang umihi sa park. Kinuhanan ko ng video para sitahin. Nang sinundan ko, doon na kami pinagmumura. Nang dumman si sir Jandy, doon na kami humingi ng tulong,” (While patrolling, I suddenly saw him urinating in the park. I recorded a video to reprimand him. When I followed him, that’s when the verbal abuse started. When sir Jandy arrived, that’s when we sought assistance) explained Pentecostes.
“Noong sinita namin siya, bigla siyang sumisigaw, nagmumura, tapos may kasamang tulak,” dagdag ng marshal,” (When we confronted him, he suddenly screamed, cursed, and even pushed us) added the marshal.
According to Pentecostes, the Korean also verbally abused Galvez, demanding identification. “Nagmumura siya nang nagmumura. Makikita na hinarang natin siya. Kasi kapag nakapasok ‘yun sa tinitirhan niya, hindi namin siya makakausap,” (He was resisting and cursing. We had to intercept him because once he reaches his residence, we won’t be able to communicate with him) stated Galvez.
Residents in the BGC area have long complained about the unpleasant odor and undisciplined individuals in the vicinity.
Authorities emphasized the need to impart a lesson to individuals like the suspect to underscore the strict enforcement of laws against public urination, especially in parks.
“Mag-ingat na lang at sana huwag gumawa nang hindi maganda… pinapatupad natin dito ang kalinisan lalo na ang urinating in public places at alarm and scandal,” (Exercise caution and refrain from engaging in inappropriate behavior… We enforce cleanliness, especially regarding urinating in public places and incidents causing alarm and scandal) urged Galvez.
The suspect refused to face the camera. The Korean national now faces charges of unjust vexation and disobedience to persons in authority.
