Sorry, No Dispatch Couple in 2024: K-Pop Fans Left Wondering and Amused

A YouTuber speculated the Dispatch Couple could be BTS JungKook and BLACKPINK Rosé.

The terms “Dispatch” and “Dispatch couple” are currently dominating discussions on X, sparking curiosity among netizens about the significance of the trending topic.

As of this moment, numerous netizens are inquiring, “Where is the Dispatch Couple?”

The question has been buzzing across social media platforms since the dawn of the new year.

For those not in the know, the term “dispatch couple” is deeply embedded in the Korean entertainment industry, particularly in the realm of K-pop.

Dispatch, a reputable South Korean news agency specializing in celebrity news, has earned a reputation for revealing and reporting on celebrity relationships, often accompanied by compelling photographic evidence.

A “Dispatch couple” refers to a celebrity duo whose romantic relationship has been disclosed or confirmed, typically by media outlets or reporters known as “dispatch.”

These revelations can significantly impact fans and the public’s perception of the involved celebrities. The information is usually released with supporting photos or evidence, generating widespread attention and discussions within the fan community and beyond.

The term originates from the name of the South Korean media outlet, Dispatch, known for breaking news about celebrity relationships.

However, it appears that there won’t be a Dispatch Couple in 2024, leaving many netizens across various social media platforms both intrigued and amused.

“I am starting to believe that there is no dispatch couple for this year,” posted @sweetacepicy on X.

“Me refreshing Twitter to find out who the dispatch couple is,” tweeted @aescci.

“Maybe the real dispatch couple was the friends we made along the way,” posted another netizen @aesdive.

Dispatch gained widespread attention for its New Year’s Day tradition of revealing celebrity couples, starting around 2010 with the report on a secret date between popular K-pop idols G-Dragon (Big Bang) and Kiko Mizuhara.

This tradition became highly anticipated within the K-pop community.

Since then, Dispatch has exposed several high-profile celebrity relationships, leading to the popularization of the term “dispatch couple.”

These revelations create significant buzz, with fans and the media closely following the news and expressing various reactions. The trend has notably impacted the K-pop industry, as management and agencies may have specific policies regarding public relationships.

However, KBIZOOM, an online news magazine dedicated to reporting on K-pop, reported why Dispatch did not expose the 2024 ‘New Year Couple.’

The reason? Instead of revealing celebrity couples in a special event, Dispatch chose to focus on reporting the death of veteran actor Lee Sun Kyun, who authorities reported died by suicide.

“Given the magnitude of an event like the passing of Lee Sun Kyun, a recently deceased prominent actor, Dispatch might have chosen to focus on commemorating and extending condolences to the family and fans. The abrupt departure of a star constitutes a significant loss for the entire entertainment industry, emphasizing the importance of respecting and commemorating well-known artists,” KBIZOOM reported.

“Furthermore, Dispatch might be looking to avoid any potential controversies that could arise from announcing a celebrity couple on January 1st this year. Maintaining silence could be a strategy to steer clear of conflicting opinions and foster a more tranquil atmosphere within the entertainment industry, at least for the time being,” it added.
