Janno Gibbs Demands Police Apology Over Mishandled Investigation into Father’s Death: ‘MALAGIM NA NGA, DINOBLE PA NILA’

Veteran singer and actor Janno Gibbs took a bold stance on Monday, January 15, urging the police to issue a public apology for what he perceives as mishandling the investigation into the death of his father, Ronaldo Valdez.

Breaking his silence for the first time since Valdez’s passing in November, Gibbs expressed dissatisfaction with the police’s handling of the case, categorizing it as “mishandled” and calling for a public apology.

‘Malagim na nga, dinoble pa nila,” Gibbs expressed in a poignant press conference.

The lifeless body of Ronaldo Valdez was discovered in his room on December 17, 2023.

In a statement delivered by their lawyer, Atty. Lorna Kapunan, Gibbs conveyed his disappointment over the mishandling of sensitive information related to the investigation, which has left the family traumatized.

Gibbs specifically highlighted the swift dissemination of information to the media, including the spreading of reports containing his address, a video, and a vlog falsely implicating him as a suspect.

“Such negligent handling of the investigation and the consequent media attacks against my family caused us immense emotional distress,” Gibbs stated.

“We strongly denounce, in the strongest terms possible, the evident mismanagement of the investigation and mishandling of sensitive data, showing apparent lapses and breaches of confidentiality on the part of the Investigation Team.”

He further demanded a public apology from the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the officers directly responsible for the lapses in the investigation.

Despite this, Gibbs clarified that they have no intention of filing charges against the police, especially with an ongoing investigation into the involved officers.

Following the press conference, Quezon City Police District Director BGen. Redrico Maranan promptly reached out to Gibbs, offering an apology.

He also faced the media to express regret to the family. “Tayo ay humihingi ng paumanhin sa pamilya dahil sa sakit na idinulot ng paglabas ng video na involved ang isang pulis natin,” he said.

In response to the incident, eight police officers from the Quezon City Police District were relieved of their duties concerning the video leak and mishandling of the investigation into Valdez’s death.
