Long-time talk show host Boy Abunda finds himself at the center of attention after veteran actress Bea Alonzo’s recent breakup announcement seemed to indirectly address him.
Alonzo, along with her now ex-fiance Dominic Roque, confirmed their split on Sunday, echoing Abunda’s earlier revelation.
In their joint statement, the couple emphasized the difficulty of their decision, pleaded for privacy, and expressed disappointment in those who disclosed the news “without our consent.”
This led many netizens to speculate that they were referring to none other than the King of Talk himself, Boy Abunda, who had previously disclosed their breakup.
During the sidelines of his contract renewal with GMA Network on Monday, Abunda was questioned about his thoughts on the couple’s statement.
“There’s a time to speak and a time to shut up,” Abunda began.
“Right at this moment, I’m choosing to shut up — but not for long.”
He acknowledged the pain experienced by both parties and emphasized the need for respect.
Abunda had confirmed Bea and Dom’s breakup during Thursday’s episode of “Fast Talk,” cautioning against dangerous speculations and urging kindness in words.
Bea and Dominic’s romance had begun in January 2021, with the Kapuso actress publicly acknowledging their relationship in August of the same year.
The couple’s engagement in July had set the stage for a forthcoming wedding.
Meanwhile, amidst the buzz surrounding the breakup saga, Boy renewed his contract with GMA Network on Monday, vowing to continue his show with “gratitude and love.”
Abunda’s response to inquiries about Alonzo and Roque’s statement, given during his contract renewal with GMA Network, suggests that tensions may linger.
Alonzo and Roque’s joint statement on Sunday addressed the breakup, emphasizing their lack of consent in its disclosure and the fabrication of baseless stories by others.
Their statement reads: “We wanted to have more time to carefully deliberate and pray about it, but there have been many speculations, questions, and insults. Unfortunately, some even confirmed our break-up without our consent, and some created ridiculous stories that had no basis and were utterly false, so we felt the need to share this announcement with great sadness, for our peace of mind and our families.”
Abunda’s confirmation of their breakup during his show, “Fast Talk With Boy Abunda,” on February 6, 2024, and his subsequent remarks during his contract renewal underscored the complexities of the situation.
He reminded the public, “You have the right to comment. You have the right to share your opinion. Pero sana’y let’s exercise prudence, caution, and most important of all, kindness.”
