Former Commission on Elections commissioner Rowena Guanzon, who actively campaigned for P3PWD Party List, has set her sights on a new target, unleashing criticisms toward a police officer in Ibaan, Batangas, identified only as Police Major Cabayatan.
In her latest social media post, Guanzon shared a video directed at her latest subject with the caption: “Ibaan police Major Cabayatan here is my message for u.”
“Alam niyo tong highway patrol na to… sayang lang sinusuweldo natin sa mga to, huh! Kasi wala naman Silang pakinabang. They are useless,” (You know this highway patrol… it’s just a waste of our salaries on them, huh! Because they’re not useful. They are useless) she exclaimed in the video.
“Why,” she queried, “Eh wala naman silang sniffing dogs for let’s say drugs. So anong pineperwisyo niyo? Ordinaryong tao pineperwisyo niyo?” (do they not have sniffing dogs for, let’s say, drugs? So, who are you bothering? Are you bothering ordinary people?)
With evident irritation, she dropped names, addressing “Major Cabayatan. Ayoko ng apelido mo, sir, huh! Pero ilut-ilutin ko yan!” (I don’t like your last name, sir, huh! But I’ll mix it up for you!)
Guanzon proceeded to recount how the police officer allegedly delayed their bus for one and a half hours.
“Nakalagay sa tarp ang pangalan ko. Siguro idol na idol mo ako, major, kaya maghaharap siguro ulit tayo ano. Dahil ako, I’m going to write a complaint,” (My name was on the tarp. Maybe you idolize me so much, Major, that we’ll probably meet again. Because hey, I’m going to write a complaint) Guanzon declared.
She highlighted that the passengers of the bus were senior citizens. “Anong hinahanap mo dun, NPA? Eh puro seniors yon!” (What are you looking for there, NPA? They’re all seniors!)
Guanzon lamented that one police officer conducted a search on the bus, causing the delay.
“Anong sini-search mo dun? Drugs? Sabi mo trustworthiness ng bus kaya mo dinelay. Ano ba talaga ang malfunction ng bus namin? Sige nga! Hindi mo naman sinasabi.” (What are you searching for there? Drugs? You said it was about the trustworthiness of the bus that caused the delay. So what’s really wrong with our bus? Tell me! You’re not saying anything.)
She then insinuated that the police officers might be waiting for a bribe. “Kelangan ba ng tong?” (Do you need a bribe?) she added.
Guanzon then directed her criticism towards police repression, implying that uniformed officers take pleasure in oppressing ordinary people, as if enforcing martial law.
“Kaylangan po tutulan niyo rahat-lahat ng pang-aabuso ng mga naka-uniporme. Dahil nakakatakot po kung yang mga yan, pumasok sa isip nila na sila ay nakakataas sa sibilant. Magbasa sila ng constitution,” (It’s necessary to oppose all abuses by those in uniform. Because it’s frightening if they start thinking they’re above civilians. They should read the constitution) she concluded her tirade.
On February 6, Guanzon found herself inside a Globe service center, expressing dissatisfaction with the lack of coordination and care for elderly individuals waiting in line for payment and transactions.
“I got angry waiting for the seniors to be given numbers. So there, I had the manager of Globe AliMall come out and give numbers to the seniors,” she posted on social media.
