Tesla CEO Elon Musk has taken to social media to challenge what he perceives as bias and misrepresentation in American liberal media’s coverage of former President Donald Trump’s recent remarks.
Musk’s criticism centers around headlines from various establishment media outlets that portrayed Trump’s use of the word “bloodbath” during a speech as a dire warning about potential violence if he is not reelected.
In a tweet posted on X (formerly Twitter), Musk shared a video from political pundit Ian Miles Cheong, who asserted that the media was misleading the public by omitting crucial context from Trump’s speech.
“Legacy media lies,” Musk said.
Cheong’s reposted tweet states, “The media is lying about Donald Trump with this narrative about a “bloodbath” if he loses the election. He was very clearly talking about the car manufacturing industry—before and after he used the word.”
“Speech with full context,” Musk added, urging his followers to consider the entirety of Trump’s remarks before drawing conclusions.
Numerous media outlets, including NPR, Politico, MSNBC, CBS, The Hill, NBC News, and The New York Times, were called out by Musk for their use of the term “bloodbath” in headlines without providing the necessary context.
He labeled these headlines as “legacy media lies” and emphasized the importance of presenting information accurately.
Musk also engaged with MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” co-host Joe Scarborough, who had shared video clips of the Jan. 6, 2021 Capitol riot alongside a caption insinuating that Trump was proud of the violence and promised another “bloodbath” if he lost again.
Musk responded, clarifying that Trump’s use of the term referred to potential job losses in the auto industry, not violence.
“Jan 6 was not a ‘bloodbath’ by any definition and Trump was referring to job losses in the auto industry when he used that word,” Musk said in his reply.
After the exchange, “Morning Joe,” known for its anti-Trump stance, removed the post.
Trump’s speech in Ohio, where he made the remarks in question, primarily focused on China’s reported plans to manufacture cars in Mexico and sell them cheaply in the United States.
Trump warned of imposing tariffs on such cars if he were reelected, asserting that failure to do so would have detrimental effects on the American economy.
In addition to his critique of media coverage, Musk also mocked individuals using the term “bloodbath” as “NPCs” or “non-player characters,” a meme referring to those who do not think independently.
