Mindanao-based singer Shaira Alimudin, also known as “Shaira Moro,” has found herself at the center of controversy as netizens react to allegations of plagiarism surrounding her viral hit song “Selos.”
The uproar began when Australian singer Lenka Kripac was notified by an Instagram user that someone was allegedly profiting from her song without permission.
Lenka acknowledged the comment, indicating that action had been taken.
Shortly after Lenka’s response, reports emerged that “Selos” had been removed from online streaming platforms.
Shaira’s record label, AHS Productions, confirmed the voluntary removal of the song, citing ongoing discussions about its legality and efforts to secure a cover license from Lenka’s team.
“This is a voluntary act on our end as we are still making arrangements with regards to the legality of the publication of the song,” AHS said in a statement statement.
“As most of you may know, the melody that we have used is originally from a song entitled ‘Trouble is a Friend’ by Lenka and as of the moment, we are already in contact with her team for us to make ‘Selos’ an official cover,” it added, admitting the melody from Shaira’s viral song was inspired by Lenka’s “Trouble is a Friend” song.
While Shaira reassured her followers of her well-being amidst the controversy, her response did not escape criticism from netizens.
