Gold Medal Glory Meets Legal Drama: Carlos Yulo’s Olympic Triumph Overshadowed as Viral Mom Lawyers Up

Carlos Yulo’s historic achievement of winning double gold at the Paris Olympics 2024 has been overshadowed by a public family rift.

The drama unfolded as his mother, Angelica Poquiz Yulo, held an emotional press conference flanked by celebrity lawyer Raymond Fortun.

In a TikTok video released on Tuesday, Yulo addressed the ongoing issues with his family. He urged his mother to move past the allegations surrounding the mismanagement of his earnings from the 2022 World Championships.

“I just want to clarify certain things from my mother’s interviews, especially regarding the P70,000 incentives she mentioned. It wasn’t just P70,000, I received six digits for my two medals,” Yulo explained. He also expressed his frustration about not receiving the incentives and his desire to know where the money went.

Yulo defended his girlfriend, Chloe San Jose, who had been labeled a “red flag” by his mother. “Chloe grew up in Australia with different cultural norms. She has her own income, and she often supports me,” he said. He also revealed that his mother had access to his bank accounts, contradicting her claims that Chloe was depleting his resources.

Emotional Press Conference by Angelica

Angelica Poquiz Yulo, appearing visibly emotional, apologized to her son during a press conference. “Ako ay isang ina na nasaktan, dahil ang mabait na anak na pinalaki ko nang maayos at mabuting tao ay hindi na nakikinig…” the tearful mother said.

“Our door is always open for you, with or without money. I am willing to have an open-hearted conversation to resolve this,” she said. Angelica urged the public to celebrate Carlos’s achievements rather than focus on the family issues. “Let us all celebrate Caloy’s historic victory for our country,” she added.

Angelica, through her lawyer Raymond Fortun, denied the allegations and expressed her willingness to present evidence to clear her name. Fortun emphasized that any statements tarnishing Carlos’s accomplishments were “untrue and products of imagination.”

Calls for Healing

Despite the public rift, Carlos expressed hope for healing and reconciliation. He urged his mother to move on, stating that he had forgiven her. “I pray for your safety and well-being,” he said. Carlos also called for the focus to return to celebrating the sacrifices and achievements of Filipino athletes in Paris.

Carlos’s father, Mark Andrew Yulo, remained optimistic that the issues would be resolved upon Carlos’s return to the Philippines. “This is not a big problem, and it can be resolved with proper conversation,” he told “One Balita Pilipinas.”

Carlos Yulo’s extraordinary accomplishment as the first Filipino to secure two gold medals at the Olympics stands as a testament to his dedication and talent. However, the ongoing family drama has cast a shadow over his historic victory, drawing public attention away from his athletic prowess.
