BREAKING: Lito Atienza Alleges Loren Legarda Tried to Bribe Him Over Son’s Solar Franchise

Former Manila Mayor and ex-Deputy Speaker Lito Atienza on Wednesday claimed that Sen. Loren Legarda allegedly tried to bribe him during a meeting to fast-track a government franchise for the solar company of her son, now Batangas Rep. Leandro “Crying Leandro” Leviste.

Atienza said the meeting, arranged by former Antique Governor Salvacion “Sally” Perez at the Manila Polo Club, took place while he was still deputy speaker during the Duterte administration.

“Meron nang mga alukan,” Atienza said, recounting how he tried to walk out when the discussion turned to the franchise. Legarda allegedly pleaded with him to support the application for her “very bright” son, whom she called a “wonder boy,” as a favor. [WATCH the video for the whole story]

Atienza also alleged that Legarda leveraged her position as chairwoman of the Committee on Appropriations to influence former President Duterte.

The former mayor described Leviste’s solar company as operating in “bad faith” from the start, noting its initial capitalization was only P1 million before Legarda allegedly increased it to P1 billion when questioned.

Atienza said suspicions that Leviste intended to sell the franchise to foreign buyers or major power players were prevented by his own initiative to include a provision prohibiting its sale in the law passed by Congress.
