Progressive lawmakers and Makabayan bloc congressmen refiled a second impeachment complaint against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Monday, drawing attention for their grand entrance with placards at the Office of the House Secretary General.
Sponsored again by ACT Teachers Partylist Rep. Antonio Tinio, the leftist complaint signals the group’s determined push for accountability, contrasting sharply with the DDS impeachment attempt, which appears dead on arrival.
The DDS filing last week lacked a critical requirement: a sponsor or endorser. During an interview, DDS figure Mike Defensor was seen blatantly dodging the truth, claiming that Rep. Paolo Marcoleta was supposed to be their sponsor.
But Marcoleta was nowhere to be seen during their charade, the actual filing, or even their staged press conference, raising the question of whether Marcoleta really chickened out or the DDS group never had a sponsor at all, effectively dooming their complaint before it could proceed.
Observers note the stark contrast: Tinio actively championed the leftist complaint, personally ensuring proper sponsorship, while Marcoleta didn’t even appear to support the DDS group during their filing, leaving the supposed DDS impeachment effort in limbo and raising doubts about its seriousness.
The development highlights a sharp divide between progressive lawmakers’ persistence and DDS inaction, with critics calling into question the latter’s commitment to pursuing legal avenues for accountability.
