Famous blogger Kamangyan, whose real name is Mercedes Lasac, has broken her long-held silence on a viral scandal depicting her naked in a mistakenly uploaded post.
In an exclusive tell-all interview with actress-turned-social-media-influencer Toni Gonzaga, Kamangyan addressed the controversy surrounding her leaked or mistakenly uploaded video for the first time, revealing that she had also fallen victim to blackmail as a result.
During the interview, Kamangyan recounted the incident, explaining that she inadvertently uploaded the wrong clip to her TikTok account on August 28, thinking it was the edited version she intended to share.
She clarified that she had been commissioned to promote a shampoo product, necessitating her undressing for the promotional video.
“Parang sa akin, okay lang naman kasi ako ang magi-edit,” Kamangyan said, referring to the fact that she had to undress for the shampoo video.
She recounted editing the video on her phone and being ready to upload when a sudden blackout occurred. Believing the video had been uploaded, she later discovered that the correct edited footage was not online.
“Ay hindi pala na-upload. So ang nakalagay dun sa taas ay retry. Sa TikTok ko kasi in-edit yon,” she narrated.
Clicking “retry,” she later realized the wrong footage had been uploaded, with 400 people having already seen it.
Fortunately, some of her fans alerted her to the mistake, prompting her to swiftly delete the post.
“Nakita ko katawan ko,” Kamangyan told Toni when asked about the incident, explaining her usual practice of being covered in her vlogs.
She expressed relief that the post did not immediately go viral, although she feared someone might have saved the footage.
On November 1, Kamangyan’s world came crashing down when she received a blackmail message via Facebook messenger.
The blackmailer, using a dummy account, demanded P50,000 in exchange for not posting her video.
Authorities were immediately involved, and Kamangyan and her boyfriend reported the incident.
Her boyfriend first learned about the viral video from his teacher, discovering that the footage circulated in group chats and became viral in Oriental Mindoro, Kamangyan’s province, on November 5.
Kamangyan also dispelled rumors that the viral video was intended to make her famous, emphasizing that she has become a victim of online abuse since the mistaken upload.
“Sobrang mahalaga talaga ang support system. Hindi porket kunwari tumatawa-tawa ang tao ay okay na siya, wala na siyang problema,” she shared.
